A completely new Evangelion anime series is officially in production, with Yoko Taro leading the script and Studio Khara partnering with CloverWorks.

The announcement was made on February 23 during the Final Program of the EVANGELION:30+ 30th anniversary festival, marking three decades since Neon Genesis Evangelion first aired.

As revealed via the official press release, the series composition and script are being handled by Yoko Taro, the creator behind the NieR franchise.

Taro is known for his psychologically heavy storytelling and philosophical themes, while Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toru Yatabe will direct the new show.

Tsurumaki is a longtime Evangelion creative who directed Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time and has worked closely with Hideaki Anno under Studio Khara.

Music is being composed by Keiichi Okabe, best known for his work on the NieR soundtracks. His collaboration with Yoko Taro defined the emotional tone of NieR: Automata, and their reunion on Evangelion has already sparked major fan reaction.

Production is a joint effort between Studio Khara and CloverWorks, the studio behind titles such as Spy x Family and My Dress-Up Darling.

No story details, format, or release window have been revealed, and it remains unclear whether the new project continues the Rebuild timeline or launches a completely fresh interpretation of the Evangelion universe.

Either way, with the creative team and studios now revealed, it looks like the next era of Evangelion is officially underway.
