The Pokemon Company has released Pokemon Friends with two very different price points depending on where you play.
Mobile users on iOS and Android can download the game for free, while Nintendo Switch players will have to pay $9.99 through the eShop.
Despite the pricing difference, both versions offer the same core experience, including access to a $26 DLC called the “Puzzle On! Bundle.” The expansion includes the first two packs of DLC, which offer new puzzles, plush to collect, and features, and cost $15 each if purchased separately
Same content, different cost
The Switch version does not include any bonus content despite its upfront price tag. Meanwhile, mobile users can access the same features through in-app purchases, including the same DLC.
Pokemon Friends is a mobile-friendly spin-off where players complete puzzles to unravel yarn that can then be used to create a plush version of their favorite creatures. The game is part of The Pokemon Company’s broader push into mobile and cross-platform experiences.
There’s been no official explanation for the platform pricing split. However, similar pricing models have been used in other Pokemon spin-offs like Cafe ReMix, which also launched free on mobile and paid on Switch.
