A new game on Steam has got Counter-Strike 2 players on alert as it has in-game items that look similar to CS2 knives and skins, and can see you get scammed pretty easily.
Counter-Strike items, be it weapon skins, knives, stickers, or gloves, have been big business for quite some time. High-end skins can set you back tens of thousands of dollars, with more being added to the mix every so often.
With them being so valuable, a number of scams have popped up over the years. Some scammers have promised to duplicate them, so that you can double or even triple your money, but they just take them anyway, while other have created fake games that look like CS.
In late June, a new game popped up on Steam – Plumber’s Legacy – claiming to be a 2D platformer. However, its tradable items on Valve’s platform look like CS2 skins and knives, complete with a copy of the game’s logo.
Fake CS2 skins from other games are back on Steam
It was highlighted by a number of CS2 fans, including Ozzny, who noted that “Scammers are attempting to trade these “Fake CS2 Skins” for real ones.”
In one of the screenshots, you can see a copy of the Marble Fade butterfly knife from CS2 being traded for a lesser value knife. However, the Fade has Plumber’s Legacy as the game, not Counter-Strike.
“There’s other “fake skins” too, shoutout to u/Key-Appearance-7257 for finding this and
@RemixFloats for finding the fake karambit damascus steel,” Ozzny added.
“Are steam moderators blind?” one fan asked. “This is so f*cking insane,” another added.
As noted, this has happened with other fake games before, and there are others operating a similar scam, too. However, this one is the most convincing yet. Even more convincing than using Falcons’ branding and players during the Major.
While the game has since been delisted from Steam, the in-game items are still tradable, so you’ll have to be on alert and thoroughly check any trades.
