Activision have announced that a new Warzone experience inspired by Black Ops 4’s Blackout is coming in 2026.

During CoD Next, we got our first real at the future of Warzone once Black Ops 7 integrates in Season 1. The update is set to bring the new Haven’s Hollow Resurgence map set on Liberty Falls, as well as major changes to movement and loadouts.

But that’s not all, as the show ended with the surprise announcement that a new experience heavily inspired by Blackout will arrive next year.

Blackout returns in new Warzone mode set on Avalon

Senior Director of Communications, Stephanie Snowden, confirmed that the mode will be set on Avalon, the long-rumored big map and fictional region where many BO6 and BO7 maps take place.

Fans first spotted Avalon during the initial reveal of Black Ops 7, leading many to think that it could replace Verdansk as the main Warzone map. However, it was later clarified that the shot was taken from the campaign.

But Snowden revealed at CoD Next that the map will be home to this new experience, which will arrive in Spring of 2026.

No more details were revealed, but the news that Blackout is returning in any capacity will be music to the ears of long-time fans.

This was Call of Duty’s first try at a battle royale, released as part of Black Ops 4. It was fairly well-received at the time, and even though the free-to-play Warzone arrived two years later and quickly blew up, many players have been desperate for it to return.

Well, it appears they’re finally getting their wish, and we’ll likely find out even more details in the coming weeks and months.

The Blackout-inspired mode comes as part of a stacked 2026, which is also set to bring a refresh to both Verdansk and Rebirth Island.
