Microsoft has confirmed when we’ll get our next look at the future of Halo, and fans don’t have to wait long. The 2025 Halo World Championship event is set to host the next big reveal.

While Halo Infinite launched at the tail end of 2021, and its fundamentals brought fans back in droves, it didn’t take long for the game to fall off a cliff. Popularity dwindled as crucial components like Forge and even co-op were left out upon release, and new multiplayer updates took too long to keep audiences engaged.

It’s been a steep decline for the franchise since with the widely-criticized Halo TV series canceled after just two seasons. Looking to right the ship, Microsoft recently rebranded 343 Industries to Halo Studios and gave fans a small taste of what the future holds.

On October 6, 2024, Halo Studios confirmed the FPS series would be making the jump to Unreal Engine 5, labelling the move “A new Dawn.” Since then, it’s been crickets. But we now know when to expect an update on the future of the legendary franchise.

New Halo details to be revealed in October

We got our first look at what was referred to as ‘Project Foundry’ during last year’s Halo World Championship event. Naturally, one year later is when we’ll hear more.

As announced by longtime Esports Lead, Tashi, the “conversation” will continue at this year’s Halo World Championship, set to take place in Seattle across October 24-26.

“If you want the official scoop on what Halo Studios has been working on, you won’t want to miss this year’s Halo World Championship,” he said in a June 30 blog post.

Thus, fans can certainly expect some new updates on the future of the series, though exactly what details we might get remains unclear. Tashi confirmed the team at Halo Studios is working on “multiple projects” concurrently. Whether we see more of Project Foundry, or something else entirely, is anyone’s guess for now.

Rumors have been circulating of a Halo 3 remaster, as well as a full-fledged remake of Halo: Combat Evolved to coincide with the game’s 25th anniversary next year. Of course, there’s no guarantee either of these projects are real, let alone being made by Halo Studios, so do take the speculation with a grain of salt.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see what October’s Halo World Championship event has in store.
