Nintendo has confirmed that it’s doing away with the Game Voucher system, removing one of the final ways to save money on Switch games.

Nintendo has a huge library of classic games, but many of them haven’t come down in price too much since their initial release. This means that even popular titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are still surprisingly costly years after launch.

One of the few ways that players got around this to save themselves some money was the Game Voucher programme. This allowed fans to essentially pre-purchase two games for $100 altogether, making it cheaper than buying both individually if they cost more than $50.

However, Nintendo has announced that the feature is being discontinued, but there’s still time to use it for some major upcoming titles.

Hurry up and get your Nintendo Game Vouchers ready for Pokemon

Game Vouchers will no longer be available as of January 30, 2026, at 23:59 local time, as confirmed on the Nintendo Support page. This gives you around six months to stock up before they’re no longer listed for sale.

The good news is that any vouchers purchased are still available for a full year before expiring, even if this goes beyond the January 30 deadline.

They can only be used on Switch 1 games, but this means that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is included, as it’s releasing on both the original and Switch 2 this October. The same will also likely be true for Metroid Prime 4, which is due to arrive sometime in 2025. So, there’s still time to use it on major releases both this year and in 2026.
