Nintendo has issued a statement addressing the backlash over the episodic superhero game Dispatch being censored on Switch, denying making any changes to the game themselves.

The response follows mounting frustration around the Nintendo Switch release of Dispatch, which launched in January 2026 with censorship locked on by default.

Unlike the PC and PlayStation 5 versions, the Switch edition removes player toggles entirely, applying black bars over nudity, bleeping profanity, and stripping out sensual audio from several scenes.

In a statement shared via GoNintendo, Nintendo said it enforces ratings and platform guidelines but does not modify third-party games itself.

“Nintendo requires all games on its platforms to receive ratings from independent organizations and to meet our established content and platform guidelines,” the company said.

“While we inform partners when their titles don’t meet our guidelines, Nintendo does not make changes to partner content. We also do not discuss specific content or the criteria used in making these determinations.”

The lack of disclosure around the Switch version’s restrictions caught many players off guard, with some saying they would have chosen another platform had they known in advance.

While AdHoc Studio has not publicly commented on refund requests, the developer did address the Switch version’s censorship in a statement shared with Eurogamer on January 28.

“Different platforms have different content criteria, and submissions are evaluated individually. We worked with Nintendo to ensure the content within the title met the criteria to release on their platforms, but the core narrative and gameplay experience remains identical to the original release,” AdHoc Studio said.
