Nintendo has released a Switch 2 survey that gives fans a chance to voice their opinions on the controversial Game-Key Card feature.

Nintendo is surveying players about the Switch 2’s new Game-Key Card format, after the system’s physical-digital hybrid sparked widespread backlash across the gaming community.

Unlike standard cartridges, Game-Key Cards don’t include any game data. Instead, they serve as physical licenses that still require players to download the full game. While the card must remain inserted to play, it offers none of the permanence or offline utility players typically expect from physical media.

Nintendo’s latest survey, distributed to Switch 2 owners, asks how likely they are to purchase different versions of upcoming games, including full cartridges, digital downloads, and Game-Key Cards.

Months after the Switch 2 launch, players are now being encouraged to explain their thoughts directly with the company. So far, Game-Key Cards have drawn criticism from physical game collectors, many of whom see Game-Key Cards as a step backward.

Many of the concerns include long-term access, resale value, and the risk of servers going offline in the future. As a result, developers like SEGA have announced that Sonic Rumble: CrossWorlds will ship on a full game cartridge, reversing an earlier plan to use the Game-Key Card format.

Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition launched with the entire game on one physical cartridge, without the need to download the game from the eShop.
