Will Byers star Noah Schnapp seemingly returned to TikTok to share a potential “spoiler” about Stranger Things Season 5, but if you thought it was a legitimate Byler tease, there’s something you should know.
Anticipation for Stranger Things’ fifth and final season is sky high, with Part 1 set to drop on November 26, followed by Part 2 on Christmas Day and the finale on New Year’s Eve. Given it’s the last we’ll see of the Hawkins crew, fans are hoping for closure on their top ships.
Mileven (Mike and Eleven), Jopper (Joyce and Hopper), and Lumax (Lucas and Max) are some of the biggest, but one side of the fandom is hoping for Byler (Mike Wheeler and Will Byers) to become canon after Schnapp confirmed he and his character Will are gay.
So, when a TikTok clip appeared to show Schnapp teasing a Season 5 moment with Tiffany’s ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ playing in the background, fans immediately assumed it was a subtle nod to Byler – but it’s not what you think.
The truth behind viral Noah Schnapp TikTok video
Over the weekend, new TikTok account @schnapper290 started sharing clips of Schnapp alongside Stranger Things Season 5 teases, culminating in an October 27 post in which he appears to respond to the Byler speculation – but this is reportedly just a fan page.
Since then, an Instagram Story seemingly from Schnapp’s actual account shares a screenshot of the TikTok page, alongside the caption, “This is not me and anyone impersonating is also not me. I deleted TikTok months ago.”
It’s hard to separate the facts and fiction here, as the Instagram Story, if real, is also no longer up. However, what we do know is that Schnapp no longer has an official, verified TikTok account after he faced controversy for his response to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict in 2023.
Multiple fan accounts have popped up since then, including (allegedly) this latest, which already has over 104,000 followers. As such, it’s best to take everything you see with a hefty pinch of salt.
Stranger Things Season 5 speculation ramps up
Still, plenty of Stranger Things fans have been duped, with the @schnapper290 account fueling speculation. In the first post, Tiffany’s ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ plays in the background, with words across the screen stating, “This song will be in Season 5… wonder why.”
Chances are that the account holder used a clip from a previous video to make it look like Schnapp is teasing this news, but the comments section is filled with hopeful Byler shippers. “Byler endgame,” wrote one, while another said, “It’s gonna be Byler, trust me.” A third asked, “Is this another spoiler?”
The latest video shows a comment asking, “Is Byler happening or not?” This has been added to a clip in which the real Schnapp says, “You guys love saying this and I never listen. It’s probably the most commented comment in all my late-night videos and I always ignore it.”
Again, this appears to be an edited mash-up of old footage designed to look like a new reaction. In reality, Schnapp hasn’t posted anything hinting at Byler or Season 5 – but that hasn’t stopped fans from believing it’s real.
“You ignore it because you know it’s true,” said one, with another adding, “Byler forever.” A third added, “There is no Byler doubt in this household.”
In short, don’t believe everything you see online. One thing we can expect, however, is for Will to enter a new era in Stranger Things Season 5. Speaking to Variety in 2023, Ross Duffer said, “Will really takes center stage again in 5.
“This emotional arc for him is what we feel is going to hopefully tie the whole series together. Will is used to being the young one, the introverted one, the one that’s being protected. So part of his journey, it’s not just sexuality – it’s Will coming into his own as a young man.”
