One Piece actor Mackenyu Maeda is “obsessed” with the One Piece Card Game, and it turns out, he’s pretty good at it too.
26 years after the Manga series got its start, One Piece was brought to the silver screen by Netflix. The live-action rendition largely went over well with the community despite initial concerns, and we’re now fast approaching the March 10, 2026 release of Season 2.
Bringing the iconic Straw Hat Pirates to life are a group of actors who are longtime fans of the source material. That includes 29-year-old Japanese actor Mackenyu, who leads as Roronoa Zoro, the muscle of the group.
Taking his fandom to another level, however, it turns out that Mackenyu is a dedicated One Piece Card Game player as well. He owns some of the most expensive cards, some extremely rare items, and has allegedly even won an event.
Mackenyu flexes One Piece Card Game skills
A rare tweet from the actor went viral on December 28, 2025. Mackenyu shared his performance at a recent One Piece TCG event, where he placed eighth out of 366 competitors.
While of course, there are plenty of decks that revolve around his character of Zoro, Mackenyu instead used a Black Imu deck, which happens to be a rather expensive set of cards.
Of the 10 games played across the event, he appeared to win eight of them, losing only to another Black Imu along with a Blue-Yello Hancock deck. This result earned him a spot among the top 10 players that day.
There’s no quite telling what the prize may have been for that particular competition, but Mackenyu played with an item all 365 others would have been envious of – a playmat signed by none other than One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda.
Back in 2024 during a panel at Megacon, cast members of the Netflix show were asked about the One Piece Card Game. They quickly pointed to Mackenyu and his ‘obsession’ with it. “He’s so serious about it,” Usopp actor Jacob Romero Gibson said.
