A new trailer for One Piece Season 2 on Netflix has just dropped, and creator Eiichiro Oda has issued an intriguing statement concerning what to expect.
The Netflix adaptation of One Piece achieved the seemingly unachievable, turning the manga/anime into a live-action epic, and appeasing fans who thought that wasn’t possible.
Season 1 introduced hero protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, and revolved around him collecting a band of seafaring brothers while searching for a fabled treasure, and endeavouring to become king of the pirates.
The show launched in August of 2023, while the Straw Hat Pirates will return for a second round of action and adventure next month, and the mastermind behind the source material has a message for fans ahead of Season 2.
Eiichiro Oda promises “hard-hitting action” in One Piece Season 2
Eiichiro Oda released a statement to coincide with the new trailer’s release, in which he teases what to expect from Season 2. Here’s what he said in full:
“It’s almost ready! With Season 1, we faced the world’s question head-on: ‘Can One Piece really be adapted into live-action?’ And the answer spoke for itself, reaching the Top 10 in 93 countries and territories, and No. 1 in 46.
“Together with the stellar production team that delivered those brilliant results, we bring you Season 2, which will head into the Grand Line, the most formidable sea in the world. In other words, all the conventions that were established in Season 1 will be shattered.
“A parade of Devil Fruit users, a race of giants never before seen, adorable creatures, hard-hitting action, and stunning SFX – this season is baked with even more highlights. Let yourself be drawn into an immersive experience that’s unique to live-action.
“May this show reach every adventurous spirit across the world. One month until we set sail. Get ready!”
What is One Piece Season 2 about?
As Oda says, Season 2 of the live-action One Piece will see Luffy and his crew heading into the Grand Line, with the official synopsis as follows:
“One Piece returns for Season 2 – unleashing fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet. Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line – a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn.
“As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.”
The story will take the crew to locations like Loguetown Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island.
New characters include Mr. 0, Dr. Kureha, Mr. 3, Dragon, Miss Goldenweek, Igaram, Miss Wednesday, Chess, Dr. Hiriluk, Miss Valentine, Dorry, Brogy, and Smoker.
