All it takes is a simple social media post to get fans of The Elder Scrolls hoping against hope that news of the game’s upcoming sequel is in the cards for 2026.

First announced back in 2018 with a short teaser “trailer,” Bethesda’s follow-up to a little game called Skyrim is still “a long way off” according to Todd Howard, but that hasn’t stopped imaginations from running wild following a one-sentence post on social media.

“It’s officially Developer Direct season!” Xbox said in a January 8 X/Twitter post, confirming that it would be sharing more details about Forza Horizon 6, Beast of Reincarnation, and Fable in its January 22 broadcast.

Fans hopeful for Elder Scrolls 6 news

In response to one user’s post stating they were more excited about Forza Horizon 6 than GTA 6, Xbox replied, “Big year for games ending in 6, though.”

The most likely scenario? Xbox’s response is referencing the two games mentioned by the original commenter (barring any delays, of course), and nothing else.

Unsurprisingly, that hasn’t stopped The Elder Scrolls’ fan base from collectively hoping on social media that something – anything – TES6 related could come out of the Developer Direct broadcast at the end of the month.
