OpenAI has rolled out a new version of its AI video generator, Sora 2, alongside a social video app also called Sora. The app launched on September 30 and is available on iPhones in the US and Canada.
The invite-only platform works similarly to TikTok with a scrollable video feed. Instead of duets or stitches, users record short clips that others can transform into new AI-generated videos with consent. Each invite gives access to the app plus four additional invitations to share with others.
For now, the app limits generated clips to 10 seconds and restricts likeness use to people who have uploaded a cameo and granted permission.
Sora 2 and cameo features
The updated Sora 2 model powers the app’s “cameo” system, which allows users to appear in AI-generated remixes of their clips. The original creator is considered a co-owner of any resulting video and can delete it or revoke access at any time.
Restrictions include a ban on generating public figures unless they’ve uploaded a cameo themselves. OpenAI also said it is “impossible to generate” adult or extreme content on the platform. An Android version of the app has not yet been announced.
