Art-house giant A24 has snagged the rights to Overcooked to produce a reality competition cooking show based on the beloved co-op video game that will stream on Netflix.

Overcooked is a hilarious, fast-paced co-op game that tasks players with working together to make food and serve customers in a series of increasingly wild dining environments.

From hot air balloons, pirate ships, graveyards crawling with zombies, and more, Overcooked is less about making delicious meals and more about managing time and tasks between multiple people to keep your restaurant afloat.

Lauded indie film and TV production house A24 saw potential in the game, and the studio has since acquired the rights to create a reality competition series based on the property and its urgent, over-the-top style for Netflix.

As reported by Deadline on November 5, the show will share the vibes of other unscripted Netflix shows like ‘Nailed It!’ and ‘Floor is Lava.’

Fans rest easy knowing the series is in good hands, as it’s being executive produced by a few big names from Ghost Town Games, the development studio that created Overcooked: Gemma Langford, Oli De-Vine, and Phil Duncan.

While this is big news in itself, the forthcoming Overcooked show also marks A24’s very first unscripted reality competition series. The company is best known for its award-winning scripted television like Euphoria, Beef, and Ramy.

While it remains to be seen what sort of dark, alluring vibe A24 plans on bringing to the table (literally), fans across social media are already hyped about the Overcooked show.

“Please tell me they’re actually gonna have the conveyor belts and sh*t,” one wrote.

“So we get to watch friendships be destroyed over cooking? I’m in,” another joked.

Still others drew comparisons to The Bear, arguing that they’re “basically making a show where people scream in the kitchen” — but that sentiment could arguably refer to any number of cooking series, to be fair.

It’s unknown when the series will air on Netflix, and neither the streaming platform nor A24 have responded to requests for comments on the news at the time of writing.
