The Overwatch 2 mid-Season 20 update is coming soon, bringing a new Doomfist skin and a number of hero balancing updates.
As the final update of 2025, Season 20 was a huge content drop. Not only did it bring a new hero in Vendetta, but it also came with the Winter Wonderland festive event, and even an aim assist buff on console.
But as is tradition, Blizzard are also planning a mid-season update to balance out the hero roster ahead of Season 21. While it doesn’t necessarily have the same amount of exciting content, it’s set to introduce a number of welcome changes.
So, here are the early patch notes for the Overwatch 2 mid-Season 20 update.
The mid-season patch goes live on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT. You can preload the update right now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms to ensure you’re ready to go as soon as the time comes.
Overwatch 2 Community Manager Megan Reardon revealed that this update will be much larger than usual, as it’s set to be a “rebase” patch. This means that although the download will be pretty hefty, the game with have a smaller file size at the end of it.
She explained that the “pre-download should help speed up the update on Thursday BUT it does take up extra space on the console.” However, once the update takes effect, more storage space will be freed up.
Mythic Magma Tian Doomfist skin
The biggest arrival in the update is the Magma Titan Doomfist Mythic skin, which was teased in the latest Battle Pass.
This is the second Mythic skin of the season, after Divine Desperado Cassidy was released on day one. Although the exact design hasn’t been revealed just yet, these Player Cards and Icons give is a pretty good idea of how it will look.
As always, it will be available from the Mythic Shop by spending Mythic Prisms earned by levelling up the Battle Pass.
Hero balancing changes
As always, the mid-season update will also bring some much-needed hero buffs and nerfs. Although we haven’t got full details on what these will be, the devs confirmed in a Q&A livestream in December that Vendetta will be adjusted.
The new DPS hero has dominated matches since arriving at the start of the season, mostly due to her almost silent footsteps allowing her to sneak up on enemy players with ease. It remains to be seen exactly how the devs will address this issue, whether they’ll adjust the audio or give her another kind of penalty to make up for it.
We’ll be sure to update this page with the full patch notes as soon as they’re released.
