Season 20 is set to be yet another huge update for Overwatch 2, bringing a new DPS hero, the Winter Wonderland event, and even some aim assist adjustments on console.
Overwatch 2 players have been eating well in 2025, with plenty of new characters joining the roster, alongside the much-loved Stadium mode and plenty of crossover events. But Blizzard aren’t done yet, as there’s still one more seasonal update to come — and it’s a big one.
So, here are the early patch notes for OW2 Season 20, breaking down everything we know is coming in the update so far.
Season 20 gets underway on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The update goes live on 11 am PT / 2 pm EST / 7 pm GMT, but you can preload it right now so you’re ready to go come launch day.
Vendetta
The biggest addition this time around is Vendetta, a new DPS hero who’s already become a fan-favorite after her limited trial. The long-rumored sword-wielder is highly mobile with a high skill gap, but if you can master her nuances, she’s set to be a deadly option in Season 20.
Check out her abilities below:
Weapon
- Palatine Fang
- Hard-light greatsword. Combo swings ending with a destructive overhead slash.
- Warding Stance
- Block with your sword, reducing frontal damage and deflecting melee attacks. Blocking damage depletes energy.
Abilities
- Soaring Slice
- Hurl your sword in the direction you are facing and then fly to it.
- Whirlwind Dash
- Rush forward into a circular slash.
- Projected Edge
- Available while Warding Stance is active. Consume energy to fire a wide projectile.
- Onslaught (Passive)
- Strike enemies to increase movement and attack speed.
Ultimate
- Sundering Blade
- Cleaves through most defenses, dealing severe damage to enemies in front of you.
Aim assist buff
Another huge change coming in the update is a buff to aim assist for console players. As explained in a recent blog post, the aid given to controller users will “increase anywhere from 6% to 8% depending on the target’s distance.”
The devs noted that Support heroes will see the biggest increase, but all classes will see some kind of benefit. For anyone worrying that it will be too overpowered, the same post also mentioned that OW has “historically used a lower aim assist percentage when compared to other FPS titles,” so these adjustments should mainly serve to make the game easier for beginners.
Winter Wonderland event returns
The yearly Winter Wonderland Christmas event returns once again, kicking off on December 9, the same day that Season 20 begins, and running until January 7, 2026. It comes with the new winter version of Prop Hunt as a limited-time mode.
This year’s event also adds a new three-path reward system where players can choose which prizes they want to unlock. Each track ends with one of three festive skins: Jingle Tracer, Krampus Junkrat, and Santa Claus Torbjorn.
New Mythics
As always, the new season comes with a Mythic skin and weapon to unlock. The skin is Divine Desperado Cassidy, which gives everyone’s favorite gunslinger a red outfit with a shiny, sun-like glow, and can be unlocked through the Mythic Shop.
Then, Orisa’s Capsule Cannon is the new Mythic weapon, but this won’t be available until the mid-season update.
