Palworld developer Pocketpair has revealed it requires game designer applicants to submit screenshots of their Steam libraries and total playtime as part of its hiring process.
Rather than focusing purely on credentials, Pocketpair appears to be filtering candidates based on how deeply they engage with games themselves.
The requirement was shared publicly by Pocketpair CEO, who revealed how the studio evaluates potential designers behind the scenes as it continues to build on the success of its creature-collecting game.
Palworld devs require designers to submit Steam libraries
Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe explained the approach in a post on X, making it clear that Steam play history is a hard requirement during early screening.
“Pocketpair has [game designers] submit screenshots of their Steam game play history. People who haven’t played Steam at all won’t pass the document screening,” Mizobe said via a Tweet translated by Automaton.
He added that playtime alone is not enough, with candidates expected to demonstrate a deep understanding of the games they play most.
“In the interview, we ask them to explain the game mechanics of the titles that rank high in their Steam playtime, why they think those specific mechanics were adopted, and what makes that title stand out when compared to other games in the same genre.”
