The Peacemaker Season 2 finale ties up multiple loose ends while also setting new storylines in motion, but one shocking moment in Episode 8 connects back to a disgusting joke in Episode 1.
Peacemaker Season 2 has seen Christopher Smith moving to another dimension, only to discover that the people he loves – and who love him – are back home.
The eight episodes also concluded in downbeat fashion, via a cliffhanger ending that potentially sets up the next Superman movie, titled Man of Tomorrow, as well as the future of the DCU.
One particularly violent sequence during Episode 8 also harks back to a throwaway line from Episode 1. Meaning SPOILERS ahead…
Imps play dirty in Peacemaker Episode 8
While investigating alternate dimensions via the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, Harcourt and her team enter a seemingly innocent world of candy.
But all is not as it seems in this dimension, as tiny creatures speed towards them through the grass, then reveal themselves to be Imps on the attack.
They overwhelm the A.R.G.U.S. agents, punching and kicking them, and in one shocking scene, smashing through a man’s helmet and biting off his face.
Another Imp starts humping Langston Fleury’s own helmet, to which the agent responds “are you f*cking kidding me?” But such filthy behaviour suggests an outlandish anecdote that Auggie Smith told during Episode 1 might not be as outlandish as it sounded…
Auggie’s disgusting Imp story was true!
When he first makes it to Earth X, Chris Smith sits down for a drink with his father Auggie and brother Keith, during which he’s regaled with a story involving 11-year-old him being chased around the house by Imps.
Keith reveals that he found a dead imp rotting inside his car three months later, while Auggie counters with “You think that’s bad? The next morning I was eating my Cheerios, and there’s something sticky in there. I think one of those little f*ckers jacked off in there!”
Keith doesn’t believe him, calling it “the famous Auggie embellishment,” but on the official Peacemaker podcast, writer-director James Gunn says the Episode 8 incident proves he was telling the truth.
“This is a place that we actually heard in a throwaway conversation in Episode 1 of this season, where Auggie Smith is talking about the time that young Chris went to Imp world and tried to nab one of them giant peppermint sticks and bring it back. And he brought all these Imps with him, which then were chasing them around the house, and Keith and Auggie had to deal with by killing them.
“And you totally – when you meet these imps – you go ‘oh, maybe Auggie wasn’t embellishing. Maybe one of those little f*ckers did jack off in his cereal!'”
