Pennywise will once again be gracing the big screen in a new film, but it’s not quite what you’re thinking, as director Andy Muschietti has revealed his plans.
Hot on the heels of Welcome to Derry’s breakout success, creator Andy Muschietti has revealed he’s not done with the iconic Stephen King horror tale just yet.
While we know a second season is in the works, set to track Pennywise at an even earlier date, more big-screen thrills are also on the way.
No, there won’t be an It Chapter Three, as the second film tied a bow on King’s novel, but there will be some new material. Muschietti has revealed the existence of a supercut, merging the two films into one long-form experience.
It director reveals supercut plans with new scenes
Akin to the recent Kill Bill supercut, The Whole Bloody Affair, wherein, Quentin Tarantino pieced together Volumes 1 and 2 along with a new anime sequence, Muschietti has been chipping away at similar for It.
In a Spanish-interview shared on socials and spotted by The Direct, Muschietti confirmed a “supercut is something that’s coming.”
“I was wondering about it a month ago,” producer Barbara Muschietti chimed in. “Stephen King asked how the supercut was going.”
The director of the two films went on to describe it as a “dream” to combine them “into a single narrative piece.” However, there’s a good chance it’s not just the first two films laid out together, but something a little different.
“It will possibly have a different structure and will have extra scenes, added scenes. I still have to film some of them… because they are the interstitial fabric between the pieces of the story.”
Although Barbara claimed they’re struggling to find time to make these extra scenes, Andy claimed “the studio is interested in funding it.”
So for now, there’s no quite telling what these extra scenes may involve, nor when the final cut might make its way to cinemas. When it does, though, we’re sure to be in for a lengthy fright as the combined run times add to just over five hours, and that’s without any additional footage.
