Pokemon is looking ahead to its 30th anniversary and telling fans to expect a big year, even as Generation 10 remains unannounced.

2025 was defined by Pokemon Legends Z-A launching in October, followed by a post-launch DLC that split opinion. The Kalos-focused entry performed well commercially but drew criticism for its scope, while live events, Pokemon GO updates, and competitive play stayed strong as mainline news remained quiet.

Against that backdrop, Pokemon quietly shifted the conversation with a short message on social media.

Pokemon 30th anniversary tease sets the tone for 2026

“Pokemon 30th Anniversary, here we go!” the company wrote on X. The post confirms that February 27, 2026 marks 30 years since the release of Pokemon Red and Green, before adding, “I have a feeling this year is going to be the best one yet. Look forward to it!”

The timing matters. Legends Z-A’s DLC only recently wrapped up, Generation 10 leaks are spreading faster than official updates, and fans are watching closely to see whether Pokemon’s next era starts with celebration, a new game, or both.

Gaming-wise, 2026 looks more focused than crowded. The only officially confirmed releases are Pokemon Champions, a battle-centric title coming to Switch, Switch 2, and mobile, and Pokopia, a cozy life sim spinoff coming only to Switch 2.

Beyond that, Pokemon’s gaming plans lean heavily into live and service-driven experiences. Pokemon GO Tour: Kalos is locked in for 2026 with in-person events and a global rollout.

Competitive play will also dominate the calendar, with Europe Internationals in London in February, North America Internationals in New Orleans in June, and a full slate of regionals worldwide.

What remains missing is a confirmed Generation 10 announcement. Leaks continue to suggest a February 2026 release window, but Pokemon has not given any official info.
