The incredibly strong Machamp is the next to get its Gigantamax form in Pokemon Go, and it will do so with a special Max Battle Day. Check out Gigantamax Machamp’s best counter to target its weaknesses.
Since the Max Out Season introduced Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon to Niantic’s game, these enormous creatures have continued to debut regularly.
While it’s more common to see the arrival of new Dynamax Pokemon, the impressive Gigantamax forms seem to be appearing once every other month, so far, with Kanto creatures stealing the spotlight.
After Gigantamax Kingler and Snorlax, it’s time for Gigantamax Machamp to debut, and it will do so as a way to give closure to the Might and Mastery season.
Gigantamax Machamp weaknesses in Pokemon Go
As a pure Fighting-type Pokemon, Gigantamax Machamp is weak against Fairy, Flying, and Psychic-type moves. With no Fairy-type Dynamax or Gigantamax creatures available, players will have to focus on the few that boast the Flying and Psychic types.
On the other hand, avoid using any Pokemon with Bug, Dark, or Rock-type attacks, as they won’t be able to deal significant damage.
Remember that only fellow Gigantamax or Dynamax Pokemon are eligible in Max Battles.
Gigantamax Machamp best counters
Even though Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon are still very new to the game, there are a few good choices available to take G-Max Machamp down.
The absolute best choices are Dynamax Metagross, Gigantamax Charizard, and Dynamax Moltres, as they will target Gigantamax Machamp’s weaknesses without playing into its resistances.
If you’re missing a good Psychic-type creature, remember that during the Max Battle Raid Day, a free Timed Research will be available, and the reward for getting through all of it is an encounter with Dynamax Beldum. You can evolve Dynamax Beldum to Metagross and then challenge the Kanto fighter.
Additionally, you’ll want to keep a few Gigantamax choices nearby, such as Gengar and Kingler, as they will deal way more damage than their Dynamax counterparts.
How to get Gigantamax Machamp in Pokemon Go
Gigantamax Machamp will debut during its own Max Battle Day, which will happen on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM local time. During that time, G-Max Machamp will appear as a 6-Star Max Battle boss.
Keep in mind that, as of May 13, players can join Max Battles remotely. This means they can use Remote Raid Passes to jump into Power Spots from wherever they are.
To join a Gigantamax battle, players must pay 800 Max Particles, which can be collected from visiting such Power Spots daily. If you fail to defeat the Max Battle boss, the MPs will be returned so you can try again.
It’s worth noting that these special creatures cannot be caught in their gigantic forms, so after defeating Gigantamax Machamp, trainers will have the chance to try and catch a regular Machamp with the Gigantamax ability.
How to evolve Machamp into Gigantamax Machamp
While Gigantamax Pokemon are stronger forms of a particular creature, they are not considered evolutions, as they are temporary and are limited to battles.
This means players cannot evolve Machamp into Gigantamax Machamp. Instead, they can defeat and catch a regular Machamp with the Gigantamax ability. That way, when it joins a Max Battle, it will turn into its enormous form for as long as the encounter lasts.
Gigantamax Machamp CP in Pokemon Go
As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Gigantamax Machamp has during a Max battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch it after defeating it. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.

Can Gigantamax Machamp be Shiny?
Yes, Gigantamax Machamp can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as Niantic announced this special variation will debut on the very same day the Pokemon does.
Shiny Gigantamax Machamp will be very easy to identify thanks to its strange green color, which differs greatly from its normal gray. Its black pants will also turn green, though a deeper tone.
It’s worth remembering that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter.
The only thing trainers can do to increase their chances is to challenge as many Gigantamax Machamp as they can during its Max Battle Day until they come across what they’re looking for.
