Pokemon Legends Z-A has brought back one of the most nostalgic mechanics in the series, with the return of Apricorn Balls spotted in the latest overview trailer.
The trailer, released on October 2, gave fans an extended look at the game’s blend of exploration and real-time battling, and tucked inside one short clip was a detail that long-time players immediately noticed. Six Poke Balls are shown being placed in the Pokemon Center healing machine, including three fan-favorite Apricorn designs: the Lure Ball, Love Ball, and Heavy Ball.
Alongside them were a Luxury Ball, a Nest Ball, and a Dive Ball. While these aren’t Apriballs, they weren’t available in Legends Arceus either, suggesting a much broader selection of Poke Balls this time around.
Apricorn Ball and more return in Legends Z-A
Apricorn Balls first appeared in Pokemon Gold and Silver, where players could craft them from Apricorn fruit by giving them to Kurt in Azalea Town. Different colors produced unique ball types, and the mechanic returned briefly in HeartGold and SoulSilver, as well as through the Cram-o-matic in Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor expansion. They could also be crafted in Scarlet & Violet using the Item Printer.
In Pokemon Legends Arceus, Poke Balls were crafted from Brown Apricorns, with only three base designs available: the standard Poke Ball, the Heavy Ball, and the Feather Ball, each with improved variants. The inclusion of multiple Apricorn Balls in Legends Z-A signals a return to greater customization, and possibly a full revival of Apricorn-based crafting.
Fans are already speculating that this could tie into the game’s expanded item and aesthetic systems, allowing trainers to personalize how they capture and store their Pokemon in the new Lumiose City setting.
