Pokemon Legends: Z-A has officially confirmed something that’s long been left unsaid in the series: Pokemon do need bathroom breaks.
As reported by Automaton, an NPC in Lumiose City casually remarks that their Pikachu “has been having tummy troubles recently,” while another asks, “How are you supposed to get rid of Pokemon droppings?”
This marks the first time in franchise history that a mainline game directly acknowledges the act, confirming that Pokemon really do go number two.
Pokemon Legends Z-A confirms monsters poop
While Gamefreak’s pocket monsters have been shown eating, sleeping, and battling for decades, their more natural bodily functions have always been left out of view. The only indirect references appeared through Pokedex entries for species like Grimer, Trubbish, and Garbodor, which describe them as forming from or consuming waste.
Pokemon poop isn’t the only thing catching attention in Legends: Z-A, either. The game’s NPCs have become a talking point of their own, with players sharing screenshots of bizarre dialogue that’s quickly turning encounters into viral moments.
Still, it’s far from the first time the franchise has dabbled in uncomfortable realism. The original anime famously showed Team Rocket’s Jessie and James trying to eat a Magikarp, while Gold and Silver infamously included the Slowpoke Tail trade.
Even Pokedex entries over the years have hinted at unsettling biology, from Cubone wearing its mother’s skull to Drifloon spiriting away children.
Whether it’s a throwaway joke or a deliberate bit of world-building, Pokemon Legends: Z-A continues this tradition by finally giving a definitive answer to a question fans have been asking for decades: yes, Pokemon do indeed poop.
