Pokemon Legends Z-A has immediately caused a stir among the player base after it emerged that the spinoff does not allow players to disable auto-save.
While Z-A doesn’t officially launch until October 16, reviews are now out in the wild, and the lucky few getting copies early have wasted no time in sharing their discoveries online.
As for why the inability to disable auto-save is such an issue for Pokemon games, it mostly comes down to a specific type of activity.
All previous modern Pokemon games have allowed players to disable auto-save. Doing so massively simplifies the process of Shiny hunting – one of the series’ most popular mechanics – by being able to soft reset individual games in the hope of a more favourable outcome.
Early Pokemon Z-A copies confirm no auto-save
On social media, numerous posts from users with early access to Z-A confirmed that an auto-save toggle was completely absent from the game’s settings, no longer affording players the option to choose.
Fans lamented that shiny hunting and soft resetting are far more difficult, if not impossible, as a result, since controlling when the game saves has always been key to those techniques.
This makes Z-A the first mainline Pokemon title to remove the feature entirely. Scarlet & Violet and Legends Arceus both included the option.
Should the negativity surrounding the omission continue to be overwhelmingly negative, it remains to be seen if the feedback will prompt Game Freak to reinstate the option, if it’s even possible.
