Pokemon TCG Pocket’s latest set, Wisdom of Sea and Sky, is on its way, bringing tons of new, exciting cards to the mobile game. However, one is standing out for all the wrong reasons.
One of the best things about Pokemon TCG is its meta. Whenever new cards are introduced into the game, players rush to pick out the strongest of the bunch so they can beat other fans in battles, or just focus on dominating any challenge they come across.
However, one card is standing out, not because it’s particularly strong (though it isn’t weak by any means), but because players are convinced the Immersive Art card is plagiarized.
Pokemon TCG Pocket fans convinced leaked Ho-oh is plagiarized
Sharing the comparison on their X account, the original fan artist was seemingly left confused regarding the similarities.
Others took to the Pokemon TCG Pocket Reddit to echo their thoughts, with one user claiming that the “Leaked Ho-oh Immersive Art seemingly plagiarized from 2021 fanart,” attaching an image of the leaked card and the fanart in question.
Fans quickly took to the comments, with many worrying that the images are “uncanny”.
“Yeah, the artist needs to explain themselves if there is a genuine reason for the arts literally lining up perfectly over each other,” commented one user, going on to say, “even if it’s not illegal, it’s a pretty bad look, and the Pokemon TCG has never had any issue like this before that I know of.”
Others echoed the sentiment, assuming the similarities are more than coincidental: “At first I thought ‘it could be a coincidence, there’s so much Pokemon fanart you’re bound to get similar poses’ But then I looked some more…yeaaaah…that’s really similar lol. Even the way the wings are stylized and the way the neck bends is nearly identical.”
“Assuming nothing was altered/stretched/modified between these two works, the resemblance is uncanny,” added another. “The exact arc of the pose, wing spread, everything that matters, is too similar. I’d have thought like the same artist updated their own work if I saw these two. The exact placement of the wing segments seems too identical to be a coincidence.”
Currently, there have been no statements regarding the claims.
