The Pokemon Company has officially announced that Pokemon Winds and Pokemon Waves will be the next mainline games.

Developed by GAME FREAK inc., the Pokemon Winds and Pokemon Waves games are the newest entries in the Pokemon RPG series and are scheduled for release in 2027 on the Nintendo Switch 2 system. These new titles feature an open world to explore, with beautiful, windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves.

Trainers will play as the main character in this adventure, with a different outfit depending on the version they are playing. Players will then choose their first partner Pokemon, either Browt, the Bean Chick Pokémon; Pombon, the Puppy Pokemon; or Gecqua, the Water Gecko Pokemon, before setting off on their journey.

The games will be released simultaneously in 2027 for the Switch 2, with more information likely to be shared as we get closer to launch.

Gen 10 announced at Pokemon Presents

The reveal trailer offered a brief glimpse at the setting for Pokemon Winds and Pokemon Waves, showcasing tropical environments surrounded by a vast ocean.

We also got our first look at the three new starters: Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua.

The official press release describes Browt as a “lively but clumsy Bean Chick” who uses Grass-type attacks. Pombon is a Fire-type, who is a “guileless and friendly Puppy Pokemon.”Lastly, Gecqua is a Water-type mon’ that is described as an “intelligent Water Gecko” monster.

The three starter Pokemon for Winds & Waves were revealed. The grass-type Bean Chick Pokemon Browt, the fire-type Puppy Pokemon Pombon, and the water-type Water Gecko Pokemon Gecqua.

Special Vacation Pikachu

Two special Pikachu wearing beach attire were also shown off, with the cute mouse critters being named Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu. We currently don’t know what their involvement is in Winds and Waves, but they’ll likely be obtainable depending on the version you get.
