Westchester County Police are asking for the public’s help after three people allegedly broke into Playland amusement park in Rye, New York, and made off with hundreds of prizes.
According to investigators, the group arrived by small boat at the Playland beach just before midnight on September 23, then climbed a fence to enter the park grounds. Once inside, they caused damage and took off with bags full of stolen merchandise.
“The trio arrived on the Playland beach in a small boat a little before midnight on Sept. 23,” police said in a statement.
Police say suspects vandalized electrical room, stole plush prizes
Authorities say the suspects vandalized an electrical room by cutting or ripping out fiber optic cables used for phone and internet service.
They also stole around 200 stuffed animals, which they carried away in garbage bags, and attempted to throw a photo booth off the boardwalk before abandoning the effort.
Detectives have shared photos and case information with other law enforcement agencies, but have not yet identified the trio.
It’s unclear whether the group plans to sell the stuffed animal prizes or hold onto them. Playland has not issued a public statement on the break-in, but shared the Westchester County Police Department’s post on social media.
