A Bully Online multiplayer mod has been shut down permanently, with developers confirming the project has ended and all services taken offline.

In an announcement shared by the development team, Bully Online confirmed it was “shutting down forever,” with the server set to go offline and all related infrastructure removed within 24 hours.

And it’s absolutely not coming back either – the statement added that development of scripts would stop, the source code would be removed, launcher downloads would be taken offline, and all Bully Online account data would be permanently deleted.

Why was Bully Online shutdown?

The reason for the abrupt shutdown was not given, with the statement simply saying: “For now though, know this was not something we wanted.”

However, YouTuber Swegta, who has been leading the project publicly, will explain the situation “in more detail” in an upcoming video. Of course, immediate speculation is that Rockstar or Take-Two, demanded the game be taken down, following previous instances of the publisher stepping in to stop fan projects.

Swegta has said he will make the video on January 21.

Players were told they could continue playing on the server for the remaining 24-hour window and were encouraged to save screenshots and back up any memories they wanted to keep before the shutdown. All Bully Online Discord channels connected to the server are also set to be deleted.

Bully Online was officially announced in October and launched in December as a multiplayer mod for Bully. As an open-source project, players could add to it over time, but there were already role-playing modes and lots of mini games.

Rockstar’s co-founder explained in September 2025 why the studio never made a Bully 2.

We will update this story when more information about the shutdown is confirmed.
