Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min is coming to Fortnite in one of the most surprising collaborations to date, as Epic looks to boost the game’s popularity in Korea.

Since it first launched back in 2017, Fortnite Battle Royale has become one of the most popular games on the market. It’s racked up millions of players and collaborated with some of the biggest names in popular culture, including Marvel, DC, and Star Wars.

However, while it’s a smash hit in most regions around the world, it’s struggled to crack the Korean market in a big way. Now, Epic Games are looking to put that right by specially marketing towards the region, starting by bringing one of its most beloved sporting icons to the game.

As reported in a translated article from Korean outlet Yonhap News Agency, Spurs and South Korea captain Son Heung-min is coming to Fortnite as a skin on June 21st. He will be wearing cybernetic armor, and the bundle comes with his signature “Click” celebration as an Emote.

While football fans will know him best for scoring over 120 Premier League goals since joining Spurs in 2015, in his home nation, he’s a symbol of national pride and a well-known celebrity.

So, it’s no surprise that he’s being introduced to Fortnite in the latest effort to boost the game’s popularity across Korea. They’re also bringing new Jam Tracks from BTS members Jungkook and Jimin to appeal to K-pop fans.

The CEO of Epic Games Korea, Park Sung-chul, explained that Fortnite has often struggled to make a dent in the region, but hopes that these kinds of collaborations will raise the game’s profile.

“Fortnite was like a sore finger in the Korean market,” and added, “We started discussing the direction with the headquarters two years ago, and we thought that we should successfully incorporate Korean culture, such as K-pop, which people around the world are crazy about, into the game.”
