Sony’s PlayStation 5 has officially taken the top sales spot in November 2025, overtaking the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time since the handheld console launched earlier this year.
The PS5 has been a steady seller since its launch back in 2020, building a huge fanbase with backing from major exclusives. The Nintendo Switch 2 hit the market in June 2025 and quickly became one of the fastest-selling consoles ever, thanks to strong demand and major franchise titles.
Since launch, the Switch 2 consistently topped hardware sales charts for months, and pretty much carried the charts in both sales and profit. But in November, that trend shifted. The PS5 officially outsold the Switch 2 in the United States in both units and dollars for the first time since the Switch’s release, ending Nintendo’s run at the top and delivering Sony a key month in a competitive holiday season.
PS5 dominates charts at end of 2025
This news was revealed by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, who confirmed the dominance by stating that the “PlayStation 5 was November’s best-selling hardware in both units and dollars, the first time this has occurred since the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo Switch 2 ranked 2nd for November across both units and dollars.”
So, while the PlayStation 5 has now taken the top spot, the Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t far behind for sales and profit, meaning the charts could shift in December or the beginning of next year.
