Krafton, the South Korean studio behind PUBG, The Callisto Protocol, and Subnautica 2, has announced plans to become an “AI-First” company, putting artificial intelligence at the core of its development and operations.

Revealed during its Krafton Live Talk event on October 23, CEO Chang-han Kim said the move will automate routine work through AI systems capable of setting goals and executing complex tasks — allowing staff to focus on creativity and problem-solving.

“Starting today, Krafton will automate work centered on agentic AI and fully implement an AI-centered management system,” Kim said. “We will leap forward as a company that promotes the growth of members and expands the organization’s areas of challenge through AI.”

To support the transition, Krafton will invest around KRW 100 billion (roughly $70 million USD) to build a GPU cluster for AI research and automation. By late 2026, the company aims to complete its AI platform and data integration system, establishing a unified infrastructure for AI-driven workflows.

Krafton move to “AI-First” approach

Beginning in 2026, Krafton will also spend KRW 30 billion annually to help employees adopt and apply AI tools in their daily work.

The company’s HR and organizational structures will also be rebuilt around AI, with new programs like the “AI Learning Hub,” “AI Roundtable,” and “AI Hackathon” designed to train staff and foster collaboration. Krafton says the shift will boost productivity, support innovation, and expand opportunities for internal growth.

“With our AI-First strategy, Krafton will expand creative attempts centered on player experience and lead AI innovation across the gaming industry,” Kim said.

The transformation marks one of gaming’s largest AI initiatives yet, positioning Krafton to integrate artificial intelligence into every level of development, management, and decision-making.
