Pokemon YouTuber Purplecliffe has done it again, failing his first Shiny encounter for the third generation in a row, this time during his Pokemon Legends Z-A playthrough.
Purplecliffe’s Shiny misfortune has become one of the longest-running jokes in the Pokemon community. After accidentally running past a Shiny Bidoof in Legends Arceus and missing a Shiny Lechonk in Scarlet & Violet, the streamer’s bad luck has followed him into Pokemon Legends Z-A.
During a recent stream, Purplecliffe called fellow creator and YouTuber Pointcrow to ask how Shiny hunting works in the new game. Pointcrow reassured him that “you can’t fail” Shinies in this game. explaining that Shiny Pokemon in Legends Z-A never despawn. The news Purplecliffe needed to break his launch day curse.
Tragedy strikes Purplecliffe again
Moments later, he stumbled across a Shiny Buneary in Wild Zone 6, but the relief was short-lived. In his excitement, the streamer accidentally knocked it out before attempting to throw a Pokeball. When the game notified him that he didn’t have any Pokeballs left, he sprinted to a nearby PokeCenter to restock.
When he returned to the same spot, the Shiny Buneary was gone. Despite Pointcrow’s earlier reassurance, the missing Pokemon confirmed one important caveat: Shinies still despawn if players knock them out.
With Generation 10 rumored to be on the horizon, we might not have to wait long to see if Purplecliffe’s luck is truly horrible, or if he can turn things around in double digit generations.
