Twitch star QTCinderella has responded to backlash after she threatened fans with DMCA strikes if they re-uploaded her stream VOD.
Whenever a stream comes to an end, most Twitch streamers will either let it live on their channel or re-upload it to YouTube. This allows fans to catch up if they’ve missed something.
However, not every stream makes the cut, meaning some fans will re-upload a VOD instead. This has, at times, created issues for streamers – especially if it’s a bit of content that they don’t want to live on beyond the stream.
On October 26, QTCinderella threatened fans about re-uploading some of her VODs, claiming she would “sue” them over it. “If you can send my mod the username, I will happily send them a cease and desist, or you can give them a heads-up for me. Or if they’re watching this right now, I will sue you, quite literally. I’m not afraid of doing that,” she said.
QTCinderella claims VOD sue threats were over songs
The Twitch star was quickly under fire for that statement, especially as fans said she’d be “wasting” money by doing so.
On October 27, QT addressed the backlash. “Whenever I do singing streams, I delete the VOD because I’m embarrassed of my singing. I sang some of my unreleased music, I sang three of my unreleased songs, and people were threatening to upload that. So, yes, admittedly, I was on edge and I was being a bitch about that,” she said.
“I was only thinking of my music being released, but I understand how that’s being perceived now as ‘QT is copy striking anyone who posted the convo.’ I’m not. I’ve not sent out one copy strike. Even if you uploaded my music now, I don’t know if I’d do anything.”
QT had mentioned that she “didn’t care” if people were posting drama clips from her stream, but claimed it was “f**ked up” if the songs got out.
A number of fans noted that some of the clips about her threat had been taken out of context as that part of her statement was missing.
