A realtor’s property listing accidentally went viral after the AI they used to edit photos of the home’s interior went rogue, adding a terrifying demon to one of the pictures.

Realtors and property owners have begun using AI to make homes look more attractive to potential buyers, using agents to remove unwanted objects and tidy up spaces. It’s becoming an increasingly popular trend in the marketplace, but it definitely has its drawbacks.

For instance, one realtor in Washington, D.C. used AI to spruce up photos of a rental property, seemingly without checking them before posting them online.

This gave one potential renter the fright of their lives. While they were swiping through photos of the space, they came upon a picture of a bathroom, which included a horrifying, fleshy creature emerging from the mirror.

With no eyes or mouth and an arm sprouting from the top of its back, this AI amalgamation is something straight out of a horror film. Commenters on Reddit speculated that it could have been a “prompt gone wrong,” while others were left confused as to how this detail went unnoticed.

“How do you not notice the melted demon crawling out of the wall before you hit publish? That shit made my stomach drop,” one wrote.

“F**king jump scare. I literally just yelled so loud when I finally noticed it and accidentally drop-kicked my phone into the next room,” another said.

Still others noticed that a few more things were ‘off’ about the photo, with one writing, “Looks like someone took a photo of the bare room, then used AI to add furnishings. The soap dispensers, rock, plant, ottoman are not correctly placed and have nonsense shadows.”

The Zillow listing for this particular property has since been removed, but Futurism reported that the terrifying bathroom photo had been replaced with a similar picture, sans demon.

While AI can be useful for realtors, experts warn that it can carry some legal risks, noting that the REALTOR Code of Conduct prohibits them from “exaggerating, concealing or misrepresenting pertinent facts about a property or transaction.”

Anecdotes have already spread on social media about AirBnB hosts using phony, AI-generated images to make their listings seem nicer than what they really are, or even using AI to create photos of ‘damage’ from tenants to defraud them out of a security deposit.
