Rob Wiethoff, the voice of John Marston in the Red Dead Redemption, is teasing a big announcement, reigniting hopes that a remake of the 2010 classic could be on the way.
The original Red Dead Redemption is one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, bringing Rockstar’s signature open world design to the wild west. While it’s 2018 prequel upped the ante with a bigger and more beautiful map, the first game still has a special place in the hearts of fans.
So, it’s no surprise that they’ve been calling for a remake for many years, to bring the iconic title up to modern standards. Rumors have been swirling for some time, but so far, nothing has been officially announced.
Now, though, the voice behind John Marston has revealed that something is coming, leaving fans ready to be hurt once again.
Red Dead Redemption fans are hoping for a remake
In recent weeks, Rob Wiethoff has been streaming Red Dead Redemption on his YouTube channel, sharing valuable behind-the-scenes insights of how it was made. But in his June 14 stream, as shared by ‘F4D3broboi’ on Reddit, he began hyping fans up for an announcement.
“I’ve got such exciting news, I can’t share it with you right now and it’s absolutely killing me,” he teased, before confirming that all would be revealed “definitely before Friday (June 20),” and that he “won’t be the only one sharing it.”
But the moment that really caught the eye was when he said: “I truly can’t think of anything else, especially playing this game.”
Many fans interpreted this to mean that news he’s hinting at will be Red Dead related, immediately sparking hopes of a RDR remake.
“Brooooo, Red Dead 1 remake would be so sick. I really hope that’s what it is!” said a fan in the replies.
“The way he says ‘especially playing this game’.. please be an RDR1 remake… please, god,” added another.
Some also pointed out that upgrading RDR1 to the same graphical standard as the follow-up wouldn’t be too “unrealistic,” given that much of the original game’s map is also included in the prequel. However, some were less optimistic, arguing that it’s more likely to be the long-rumored next-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2.
It’s also possible that the news may have nothing to do with Red Dead whatsoever; it could be a new project that Wiethoff is working on, or even something else. We’ll have to wait for the announcement to know for sure.
