Rematch, Sloclap’s new arcade-style game all about soccer, comes with its own battle pass packed with additional content.
Similar to contemporary games like Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone, Rematch’s so-called Captain Pass contains rewards that can be earned for free just by playing, as well as premium items that can only be unlocked by paying real money.
The latter is where the lion’s share of cosmetics are placed, however, so what exactly do you get for buying into Rematch’s in-game economy, and is it worth the cost?
Captain Pass explained
Per Sloclap’s blog on monetization, the Captain Pass can be purchased with Quants. This is Rematch’s premium currency, purchased directly through the in-game store.
Each season of content is divided into three chapters that unlock as the season progresses. Sloclap states that full completion of every tier and chapter in a season will earn enough Quants to purchase the next season without having to spend additional real money. This does, of course, require that you play Rematch enough not to miss a single unlock.
Likewise, each leg of the Captain Pass is split into multiple paths. You can prioritize a single path to reach the final reward faster, but this doesn’t lock you out of a path you initially missed. You’re free to return and unlock these rewards.
Goal cage designs, hairstyles, accessories, and other aesthetic-only items are available on the Contest Pass. Experience towards these unlocks is earned through play.
Price
Certain editions of Rematch include Premium Tokens. These can be redeemed to unlock the Captain Pass without additional spending. If, however, you purchase the standard edition, you’ll need to buy 1,000 Quants to unlock it. See the pricing guide below for how much the currency costs by region.
Note that the prices below reflect the cost of 1,100 Quants, the minimum quantity purchasable in-game. Prices can also vary by platform between Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
- USD – $9.99
- GBP – £8.50
Blocks
Blocks are Rematch’s second in-game currency, earnable by playing the game. While the Captain Pass contains at least one exclusive cosmetic item, Blocks can be redeemed in Rematch’s in-game store to “purchase most available items.”
Larger quantities of Blocks can also be obtained as free rewards on the Captain Pass track.
Is it worth it?
As always, the answer to this question will differ depending on individual play habits. If you purchase Rematch and it becomes part of your regular games rotation, your playtime is more likely to be high enough to unlock everything the Captain Pass has to offer.
If that’s the case, the entry free listed above would, in theory, only be necessary to pay once, as you’d earn enough Quants to unlock the next season for free.
If, however, you only plan on spinning up Rematch occasionally but still value customizing your character, purchasing Quants to use on specific purchases in the store is the way to go. Likewise, if you’d rather not spend a penny, many of the same cosmetics can also be purchased with Blocks, earned through gameplay. This method will take longer.
