Jeremy Irvine’s character experiences “intense mental breakdown” in Return to Silent Hill
Christoph Gans returns to co-write and direct Return to Silent Hill, which arrives in January of 2026, and is based on hit horror game Silent Hill 2.
English actor Jeremy Irvine plays protagonist James Sunderland, who spends the movie desperately searching for love of his life Mary, and that journey took a toll on the star.
“It’s a wild, chaotic movie,” Irvine tells the Radio Times. “I was a fan of the game. When they offered it to me, I thought, ‘God, 14-year-old me would think this is so cool.’ I basically took the job for that reason.
“It is fun, but playing scared is exhausting. My character is going through a seriously intense mental breakdown and has created this world of monsters around him in his head.
“It was the hardest work I’ve ever had to do on a job. When I finished, I checked myself into a spa in Switzerland.”
While principal photography on Return to Silent Hill was completed at the start of 2024, fans have had a long wait to see the finished article. But thanks to Terrifier distributor Cineverse, the film is finally coming out on January 23, 2026.
