Return to Silent Hill finally has a release date, and its first trailer has been unearthed on social media after it was taken down by Konami.
The first Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans, was released in 2006. It wasn’t particularly well-received by critics or fans at the time, but it was commercially successful enough to green-light another installment: Silent Hill: Revelation. The less said about that, the better.
Nearly 15 years later, the iconic video game franchise is returning to the big screen with Return to Silent Hill. Gans is back as director, and this time, it’s an adaptation of Silent Hill 2, starring Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again) as James.
It’s been picked up by Cineverse (the same distributor behind the Terrifier movies), and Konami released a teaser trailer in May 2024… before it was deleted. Fear not (well, maybe a little), because it’s still online.

The trailer was reuploaded by a fan (@MemoryOfAlessa_) in May this year. It’s a brief 48-second teaser that features the iconic shot of James looking in the mirror, a letter from Mary, Pyramid Head dragging a sword and trying to grab him, and other creepy glimpses of the film.
“I decided to reupload this so more people will get to see how the film feels because I think they deserve to see the trailer Konami deleted a few months ago for no reason,” the fan wrote.
While unconfirmed, it’s believed the teaser wasn’t necessarily intended for the public, as it may contain unfinished elements. However, with a release date set, expect another official release soon.
For those unfamiliar with the game (be it the original or last year’s remake), the movie will follow “James, a man broken after his relationship with the love of his life, Mary, ends.
“When a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town.
“But as he descends deeper into the darkness the secrets he uncovers lead to a horrifying truth, and James finds himself struggling to hold on long enough to save his one true love.”
One last detail that should please players of the games: Akira Yamaoka, the series’ composer, has also signed on to score the film.
