Robert Pattinson has confirmed a long-running and oddly specific fan curiosity, admitting that he really did used to smell like crayons, but insists that phase of his life is now over.

The actor addressed the claim during a recent interview with GQ, revisiting a comment he first made years ago that quickly became one of his most quoted and surreal anecdotes. While Pattinson says the description was accurate at the time, he believes his body chemistry has since changed.

“I think that something has changed. My body chemistry has changed. It’s very strange,” Pattinson said. “But I 100% used to smell exactly like a crayon.”

According to Pattinson, the scent was noticeable enough that he associated it with a specific period of his life. As he’s gotten older, he says that distinct smell has faded almost entirely.

“And it’s weird, you become less scented as you get older, I think. I don’t really notice my smell anymore,” he explained. “I used to have a very particular, pronounced smell.”

When pressed on the nature of that smell, Pattinson doubled down on the comparison.

“A crayon-y one,” he said, adding that before that phase, it was something far harsher. “Before that, it was quite a kind of vicious, vicious scent.”

Pattinson went on to offer his own theory for why the crayon era ended, joking that it may have coincided with a personal reset.

“When [my scent] became crayon-y, it was like something died,” he said. “I guess the seven-year cycle. Maybe I was smelling of crayons when one self died, and when a new self was born, it was less scented.”

Now, Pattinson claims he barely notices any smell at all, even after intense activity.

“I don’t smell anything now. It’s so weird,” he said. “You can be going to the gym and stuff, I’m like, okay, I don’t smell anymore.”

While the explanation may raise more questions than it answers, Pattinson appears confident that the crayon days have waned.
