Robert Pattinson plays a surprising role in Josh Safdie’s new movie Marty Supreme, but don’t expect to see the star onscreen.

Robert Pattinson and Timothée Chalamet are turning into frequent collaborators. They first starred alongside each other in 2019 period piece The King, in which Chalamet played Henry V, and Pattinson was Louis, Duke of Guyenne.

The duo will next share the screen in December 2026 release Dune: Part Three, in which Chalamet once again plays Paul Atreidis, and Pattinson will appear as shape-shifting villain Scytale, who plots against the presumed messiah.

But the eagle eyed – or rather eagle eared – will have noticed that Pattinson appears in Chalamet’s acclaimed new movie Marty Supreme, via voiceover early in proceedings…

Marty Supreme director Josh Safdie previously directed Robert Pattinson in 2017 crime drama Good Time, and during an interview about his new movie at the BFI on London’s South Bank this week, Safdie revealed that he’d found a small role for the star in his new table tennis drama.

“No one knows this, but that voice – the commentator, the umpire – is Pattinson,” Safdie said, as reported by Variety. “It’s like a little Easter egg. Nobody knows about that.”

The scene in question is near the start of Marty Supreme, when Chalamet’s ping-pong prodigy Marty Mauser plays reigning Hungarian champion Bela Kletzki (Géza Röhrig) during the British Open semi-finals.

Safdie also revealed how the voice cameo came about, adding: “He came and watched some stuff and I was like, ‘I don’t know any British people.’ So he’s the umpire.”
