Florida’s Attorney General has issued a criminal subpoena to Roblox after investigations
reportedly discovered predatory behavior toward children in the online gaming platform.

FL Attorney General James Uthmeier made the announcement in a video posted to his X account on Monday, October 20, in which he explained that these subpoenas will allow prosecutors to gather information to help build a case against criminals using the platform.

In his video, Uthmeier assured parents that he would “stop at nothing” to protect their children, calling out “companies that act carelessly” in regards to minors on their platforms and promising to “hold them accountable” for “exposing [young users] to harm.”

“Roblox profited off of our kids while exposing them to the most dangerous of harms,” Uthmeier said. “They enabled our kids to be abused. Companies like Roblox have become breeding grounds for predators to get to and have access to our kids.”

Roblox responded to this subpoena in a statement to the Florida Phoenix, saying they will cooperate with the AG’s investigation and are equally invested in the safety of their young user base.

“We share Attorney General Uthmeier’s commitment to keeping kids safe and we will continue to assist his office in their investigations,” they told the outlet. “We have a strong record of working with law enforcement and investing in advanced safety systems to help protect our users and remove bad actors.

“To safeguard users, we prohibit the sharing of images and videos in the chat, use filters designed to block the exchange of personal information, and we are working to implement age estimation for all users accessing chat features.”

This isn’t the first time Uthmeier has issued a subpoena to Roblox; in fact, he hit the platform with a civil subpoena in April 2025, requesting information like the number of users under 16, documents regarding parental controls, info about how the company prevents children from seeing mature content, and various marketing materials.

This latest action comes at a time of heightened scrutiny toward Roblox, which was at the center of a heated online debate in August for banning a “predator hunter” YouTuber from its platform after he reportedly got six predators using the platform arrested.

Roblox has also been the subject of several lawsuits, including a class-action suit filed by parents in 2023 and another one filed by the state of Louisiana in August, both due to child safety concerns.
