Roblox rolled out a new AI creation tool after a week of mixed signals about how far generative technology should reach games.

The launch followed a week of conflicting messages around AI in game development. Google expanded access to Project Genie, an experimental system that generates short, interactive 3D environments from text prompts.

Shortly after, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that Rockstar is not using generative AI to build GTA 6, stressing that the studio’s worlds remain handcrafted. Meanwhile, Sony added another angle by securing a patent for AI-generated podcasts narrated by PlayStation characters, outlining automated, personalized audio experiences.

With experimentation accelerating and resistance still visible, Roblox outlined its own, more player-facing use of generative tools.

Roblox turns AI into a player-facing toy

Roblox debuted a beta AI tool that lets players generate interactive in-game objects from text prompts, with full scene generation on the roadmap.

The company had previously rolled out the feature to creators as an upgrade to its earlier asset generator. Inside supported games, players could type prompts and receive usable objects on the spot.

Now, it’s being released for every creator on Roblox. For now, the system supports two schemas: a drivable four-wheeled car and a single-mesh object. But despite its limitations, Roblox point to early results. In a test game called Wish Master, players generated more than 160,000 objects in six months. According to the developer, those players stuck around longer, with average playtime climbing by 64%.

There’s also a bigger idea sitting behind the scenes, one that’ll allow anyone to fully create games via live prompting. Roblox’s CEO Dave Baszucki described “real-time dreaming,” a concept where worlds reshaped themselves live in response to prompts.

At around the 0:50 mark, the prompts “A viking warrior walking through a village” and “A massive tsunami suddenly hits the village” unfold on screen, with the scene assembling itself and then collapsing under the incoming wave.
