After announcing major changes back in November 2025, Roblox’s age verification has now landed globally, requiring every player to submit a facial image to verify their age.
Roblox has faced a fair amount of backlash regarding how it handles its younger audience, with various lawsuits and legal challenges being filed back in 2025. As a result, they’ve vowed to improve their standard of safety towards minors and implement checks to ensure underage players are safe from predators and impersonators while they play.
To do this, back in November 2025, they announced facial age checks would be implemented across the platform, requiring all players to submit an image of their face. From there, it’ll estimate their age and place them in a certain bracket, meaning players of the same age will be able to speak, while those considerably older or younger won’t be able to chat.
Well, after a trial in New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands, the change is officially being rolled out globally.
How the Roblox age checks work
Essentially, how this works is players will log into Roblox and be given the instruction to submit a facal age check. They’ll need to take a picture of their face and submit it to the website as instructed. From there, it’ll estimate their age and place them into a certain age bracket:
- Under 9
- 9 – 12
- 13 – 15
- 16 – 17
- 18 – 20
- 21+
These age brackets allow you to only chat with people similar to your age, with users directly above or below your bracket being in the same chats as you.
Those under 9 will have their chat turned off completely, requiring parental consent after the age check to reintroduce chat.
Similarly, if you don’t verify your age, you’ll be unable to use the in-game chat and talk to other players, although the verification is optional.
This is expected to roll out globally this week, meaning tons of players will start seeing the verification appear shortly.
