Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser has addressed the story in Grand Theft Auto 6, saying it’s not one that he wrote, but he is still “excited” by it.
With the gaming world on tenterhooks for Grand Theft Auto 6, it’s no surprise that fans go wild whenever anything regarding the new game surfaces. That could be a slight easter egg from Rockstar themselves, or even a police car that was being used to develop the game going up for sale, they go wild for it.
The new game, however, will be the first Grand Theft Auto title without Dan Houser’s full involvement. The Rockstar Games co-founder left the studio back in 2020 and went on to found Absurd Ventures, which is working on two games and a comic series.
There were leaks of stories that Houser had written for GTA 6, including one about an old cop, his troubled son, and the right-hand man of a Colombian drug lord that was apparently “too dark” for Take-Two to sign off on.
Dan Houser weighs in on GTA 6 story after Rockstar exit
It is rare that Houser surfaces in public, however, and rarer still that he comments on anything to do with Rockstar and GTA these days. However, he did speak about his excitement for GTA 6 with IGN at LA Comic Con.
“I wrote the last 10 or 11 of them, so I think the world’s probably had enough GTA from me,” he joked.
“There’s always a new story, so it’s not going to be a story I wrote or a character set that I developed, but I think it’s going to be exciting. The game will be great, I’m sure.”

There are still writers at Rockstar who worked with Houser during his time there, so his influence may not be totally gone.
He also noted that Red Dead Redemption is the “best” game he worked on during his time at Rockstar.
“Red Dead 2, I think, was the best thing that I worked on. The best single kind of realization of open-world storytelling thematic consistency, and understanding how the games are assembled to take you on an emotional journey,” he added.
