Ron Perlman has shared how his long-running association with the Fallout games began and how he had no idea how big the series had become until he was asked to return for the sequels.
Appearing on The Joe Vulpis Podcast, Perlman looked back on his early involvement in the post-apocalyptic franchise, in which he provided narration for each game’s bookending cutscenes.
Recalling how he came to be involved in the now iconic IP, he said, “They invited me to do the very first Fallout and gave me $40 and a sandwich.”
Perlman didn’t realise Fallout had become a hit
According to Perlman, it was only when he was contacted to return for the sequel that he realised the game had been a success.
“A year and a half later, I get a call, ‘Hey, you remember Fallout?’ No. ‘Well, there’s a second one.’ I go ‘why?’ ‘Because the first one went through the f**king roof,’” he recalled. “I go ‘Really? Cool’. Do the second one, then the third, fourth, and now it’s a whole brand.”
Despite becoming one of the most recognisable voices associated with the franchise, Perlman said he never actually played the games. When asked directly if he had spent any time with them, he replied: “No. I did a couple of lines, got my $40 and my sandwich, and went home.”
