One of the biggest questions Marvel fans have is about why Doctor Doom will start a war against the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars — and a new report claims there’s a heartbreaking reason behind the villain’s introduction.

The two movies are set to cap Marvel’s Multiverse Saga as different universes collide like a kid crashing their action figures together. Only here, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is playing with superheroes that fans have loved for decades.

The third trailer for Doomsday confirmed that some of the original X-Men heroes and Magneto (Ian McKellen) are making their MCU debut, and it’s likely that there will be even more surprises along the way. Of course, we still don’t know if there will be a reason as to why Robert Downey Jr. is playing Victor von Doom.

Regardless, a rumor claims to know why the iconic villain starts a war against Earth’s Mightiest heroes throughout the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday.

Why does Doctor Doom attack the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday?

Notable scooper MyTimeToShineHello claims that Captain America will be Doctor Doom’s reason for attacking the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday. They claimed on X that “Victor von Doom’s wife and son were killed in an accident, and Victor himself was injured and his body damaged. He traced the cause of the accident to Steve going back in time, and now he’s after him to avenge his family.”

Fans will remember that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) went back in time in Avengers: Endgame to put all the Infinity Stones back in their rightful places after the team had defeated Thanos. After that, he made a life for himself with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and they had a child together, as seen in the first Doomsday teaser.

For now, it’s not clear how Captain America caused Doom’s wife and son to die but it would seem likely that the hero would be unaware of the consequences of his actions, simply because he’s not the type of person to brush off something like that.

It’s also surprising that Doom’s origin would be tied to Captain America, rather than Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and the Fantastic Four, since he’s most often associated with the team.

But the Russo brothers did say recently that Avengers: Doomsday wouldn’t work without Steve returning to the story, so there is some weight to the rumor. Either way, it could play out entirely different when Avengers: Doomsday arrives in December.
