A “human-like” AI robot from Russia fell over on its debut showing, causing panic, and a chaotic exit from the stage as a crowd watched on.
For years, science fiction movies and TV shows promised us that the 2020s would have some massive leaps forward when it comes to technology. Flying cars, teleportation, and even fully automated homes were suggested as possible advancements.
Humanoid robots, which help with everyday life, have also played a big role in those predictions. There have, of course, been some robot cleaners out there for many years, but the humanoid side of things has taken a leap forward in recent years.
China has been at the forefront of that, with the XPENG IRON being so life-like that it was cut open to show that it was a robot inside and not a human in a suit.
Russian robot falls over seconds into public debut
Russia has also gotten involved, with their first anthropomorphic robot, named AIdol. It was being shown off by creators on November 11, being made to walk out on stage with the soundtrack from Rocky playing in the background.
However, after taking a few steps towards the crowd, the AIdol fell over and hit the ground. This panicked staffers who quickly tried to get the robot back upright. Yet, as their failed to do so, they tried to use a cloth to cover it up.
That also got tangled up in amongst the chaos. According to The Telegraph, the AIdol suffered damage too from the fall, with pieces shattering on stage.
Videos of the robot’s fall have racked up big numbers on social media, with one clip receiving over 2 million views alone. Naturally, it has become the source for jokes.
“I think he fell because he got nervous,” one said. “That’s the most human-like AI robot I’ve ever seen. A drunk robot, completely off its nut,” another added.
Robots falling over through awkward movement has long been a source of enjoyment for internet users, but his chaotic scene raises the bar.
