Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds will reportedly lead his own mutants team-up movie for the next Marvel Cinematic Universe saga, and it raises one big question.

Right now, the MCU is deep into its Multiverse Saga, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday scheduled as the next big blockbusters, concluding with Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.

Disney’s takeover of Fox in 2019 means that the X-Men can now join the MCU. Deadpool & Wolverine was the first big release, while Doomsday will see many Fox-verse characters making their debut, including Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and James Marsden’s Cyclops.

This sets up what’s believed to be the next phase in the MCU: the Mutant Saga. And according to Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman, Ryan Reynolds is contributing with his own mutant team-up movie.

Could Ryan Reynolds’ rumored team-up movie be the MCU’s X-Force?

The question is whether this rumored project will be an X-Men project or the long-speculated X-Force movie. For those unfamiliar, the X-Force is a more aggressive, morally gray counterpart to the X-Men.

Traditionally led by Cable in the comics, the team takes on the missions that the X-Men won’t – covert, bloody, and often brutal. Deadpool himself has been a member, making the idea of Reynolds fronting it feel like a natural fit.

Plus, there still hasn’t been an official X-Force movie. Back when Fox still controlled the X-Men franchise, Deadpool 2 teased the idea, even assembling a short-lived X-Force lineup in one of its most memorable sequences.

After that, Fox had a spinoff in active development with Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard attached. Casting was even underway, with Josh Brolin’s Cable and Zazie Beetz’s Domino expected to return.

But when Disney acquired Fox in 2019, the project was quietly shelved, along with other mutant spinoffs. Since then, fans have speculated about when or if X-Force might resurface under Marvel Studios.

With the Mutant Saga looming, a Reynolds-led team-up film could be the perfect way to revive the concept. The fans certainly seem to think so.

“Deadpool assembling the X-Force with mouse money now,” wrote one, while another said, “The REAL X-Force?” A third added, “Deadpool can do an actual X-Force this time with a more adult theme.”

And a fourth chimed in, “After Deadpool & Wolverine’s success, I’m actually excited to see what Reynolds does with X-Force. He gets the character.”
