A Ryanair flight to London had to be diverted after one passenger started eating their passport mid-flight and another attempted to flush some of theirs down the toilet.

For a lot of people, getting on a plane is a pretty nerve-racking and stressful thing to do, never mind the stress of getting through the airport and security without too many issues. Even if you make it through all that without too many bumps, there are plenty of things that can go wrong and cause flight disruption.

For the most part, these disruptions will happen when planes are on the ground. A plane might be late coming from its previous destination, there could be a technical error, or there might be a delay in getting bags on board.

A disruption happening while in mid-air, however, is rarer and always noteworthy – especially if someone tries to eat their passport.

Ryanair flight to London disrupted by eaten passport

That’s right, a Ryanair flight from Milan to London had to be diverted after one passenger decided to use their passport as their in-flight meal.

According to reports from fellow travelers on the flight, the whole mood of the flight “changed’ after cabin crew were alerted to the unusual behavior. “Suddenly, the whole mood changed – no one on board knew what was going on, these people were acting weird,” one said.

The cabin crew also tried to reason with another of the men and stop him from flushing the remaining parts of his passport down the toilet.

The flight was ultimately diverted to Paris, with the men being arrested and taken off the plane by French police.

Disrupted passengers were ultimately able to continue their journey to London a few hours later, taking an alternative flight.

It was “the most terrifying 15 minutes of my life,” another eyewitness told The Sun after it had all unfolded.
