Tickets for IMAX 70mm screenings of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey have already gone on sale… and sold out, and scalpers are already re-selling their seats.

Is Nolan the biggest director working today? Tenet, which hit cinemas during the pandemic, still made over $365 million worldwide. Oppenheimer, a three-hour, part-black-and-white epic about the ‘father of the atomic bomb’, almost made $1 billion. His Batman films are among the highest-grossing movies of all time.

He’s more than a filmmaker – his name is an event in itself, and The Odyssey is already generating an extraordinary level of hype.

One year today (July 17, 2026), The Odyssey will be released in cinemas. If you didn’t pick up tickets for the first IMAX showings, you may be out of luck.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey sells out as tickets go on sale a year in advance

Almost every screening of The Odyssey made available to book today has already sold out; some users reported venues selling out in under three minutes.

To be clear, there will be more IMAX 70mm showtimes announced closer to the movie’s release, so try not to worry if you were unlucky this morning – or perhaps you didn’t consider checking to buy tickets for a movie a year before it comes out.

There is another option, but it’ll cost you more than you’d pay for normal admission. On eBay, resellers have been spotted selling tickets for as much as $250.

That’s a particularly egregious example, but others are stranger. For example, there’s one listing for two tickets to a BFI IMAX screening in London priced at £50 – that’s just £2 more than it’d be if you bought the tickets through official channels.

“Jobless mfs are really reselling Odyssey tickets,” one user tweeted. “Treating The Odyssey tickets like it’s a concert, INCLUDING SCALPERS, is the most sinister thing you could do to the movie-going experience,” another wrote.

“The Odyssey 70mm IMAX tickets are already going for $500 buy now on eBay I hope you’re proud of yourselves IMAX rollout team,” a third posted.

“The Odyssey 70mm tickets are actually ridiculous and setting a terrible precedent that will encourage resellers to spike prices like why the f**k would you expect people to book tickets for a movie a year in advance,” a fourth wrote.
